Rome confirms its place as the capital of pizza al taglio (by the cut), according to the ranking “50 Top Pizza Italia 2022”. Round pizzas or to take away, the best addresses distinguished by the Top 50 in Italy.
Pizza may have been born in Naples, but it has undoubtedly become well established in every city in Italy. And especially in Rome, where pizza al taglio is an Italian reference, ready to be devoured at every street corner.
This is evidenced by the 2022 annual ranking of the most influential guide in the world of pizza, which presented its “50 Top Pizza Italia”. Rome took the three places on the podium for the best pizzas al taglioand is not outdone on round pizzas.
Rome, capital of pizza al taglio or cut
Seven Roman addresses are among the 50 best pizzerias offering take-out pizzas (by the slice and by weight), including three on the podium.
In first place, the pizza maker Gabriele Bonci and his Pizzarium, awarded for its creativity and its ability to present pizza as a truly “unique, versatile and eclectic” dish. The one who can today claim to be the best pizza maker in Rome (for pizzas by the slice) is located in Via della Meloria, 43.
The podium is completed by the pizzeria Antico Forno Roscioli (Via dei Chiavari, 34, 00186 Rome), followed by Levito Pizza, Bread… (Viale Europa, 339, 00144 Rome).
Also to be tested, four other distinguished pizzas in the Top 50:
Pane E Tempesta (Via Giovanni de Calvi, 23) in 19th place; Pizzeria al taglio Angelo & Simonetta (Via Nomentana, 581); Pizza Chef Rome (Via Clelia, 63ª) 38th in the standings and Elettroforno Frontoni (Via Eurialo, 73 and Via Ostiense, 387) in 44th place.
The best round pizzas in Rome
Among the 50 best classic pizzerias in Italy, six are Roman, and two addresses are in the Top 10 2022.
In 6th place, we find Seu Pizza Illuminati (Via Angelo Bargoni, 10), and in 8th place, 180g Pizzeria Romana (Via Genazzano, 32).
Further down the Top 50, we also savor the pizzas of Qvinto (Via Fornaci di Tor di Quinto, 10) ranked 13th, Sbanco (Via Siria, 1) which is 29th, Sant’Isidoro – Pizza & Bolle (Via Oslavia, 41) 39th and Antica Friggitoria Masardona (Piazza dell’Oro, 6) 46th in the standings.
Unsurprisingly, the best pizzas in Italy can be tasted in the Campania region: at “I Masanielli” in Caserta (1st in the ranking), and in Naples at 50 Kalò and 10 Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria, respectively second and third.
