French actor Alain Delon and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke on screens from kyiv and Paris on Friday, September 23, at the end of the program “Face à Zelensky”, broadcast on TV5 Monde.
An exceptional interview was broadcast on TV5 Monde, Friday September 23, between Volodymyr Zelensky and Alain Delon. By interposed screens, the Ukrainian president, from kyiv, and the French actor, from Paris, exchanged at the end of the program “Face à Zelensky”.
The Ukrainian head of state, who himself was an actor in the past, expressed his admiration for Alain Delon. “I’ve never been such a great actor as you are. For me, you’re still an authority and a huge actor”he greeted. “I will never be such a great and deserving president as you”replied the French star, 86 years old.
“I would be 50 years younger, I would enlist in the Ukrainian army”
During this exchange “pre-recorded a few days ago”Alain Delon publicly supported Volodymyr Zelensky and the Ukrainian people. “I suffer for you. I would be 50 years younger, I would enlist in the Ukrainian army”he said on TV5 Monde. “You have done nothing to provoke this war. There are things that I do not understand and this war, I do not accept it. When I see these people dying, these children dying, these animals dying , it disgusts me”lamented the French actor, who said to himself “deeply saddened” by the war in Ukraine, to the Ukrainian President. “It is the dream of one man and not that of a country or a nation”he added.
“He [en faisant référence à Vladimir Poutine, sans jamais le citer, ndlr] thinks we’re part of his world”reacted Volodymyr Zelensky to the words of the actor. “Maybe he wants the Soviet Union back (…) and all who stand in his way are cannon fodder. He knows full well how many people perish every day but it’s part of his plan. It’s a colonialist approach.denounced the Ukrainian president, on the French-speaking international channel.
At the end of the interview, the Head of State invited Alain Delon to meet him in kyiv. “I’ll come when I have fewer canes and I’m walking normally. It won’t be long because it’s worth the trip and I’m not afraid”promised the actor. “We will be waiting for you, it was a great honor to meet you”, concluded Volodymyr Zelensky, who insisted on the importance of French society’s support for Ukraine. And this, while since Friday, September 23, referendums have been organized by pro-Russian separatists in the Donbass. Referendums that have been widely denounced by the international community, and by kyiv.
