There are different modes of communication of a product recall. This method of communication varies depending on the size of the recall. Indeed, sometimes supermarkets just stick a note on their front door to communicate the recalled products.

There are also platforms on which to inquire if you want to be informed on a daily basis. The government has also launched a website in 2021 for the purpose of identifying recalled products.

This is the Conso Reminder site. We can follow the latest reminders via this site or on his Twitter account. You can also go to the site of the Directorate General for Competition, Consumption and the Repression of Fraud (DGCCRF).

Sites like 60 million consumersUFC-Que Choisir or Marmiton also inform of certain product recalls.

What could be the reasons for a product recall?

When it comes to the causes of a product recall, there are several. The most common is microbiological contamination by bacteria such as E.Coli or salmonella. These bacteria can appear during the manufacture or packaging of products.

There are also other reasons such as food contamination through contact with toxic metals. Or residues of veterinary drugs. But also by contact with agricultural pesticides in too large a quantity.

Sometimes also, there are failures on the labeling and the dates of DCL or the tightness of the packaging. Thus, when a product is the subject of a recall, its consumption may be dangerous to health.

Mild symptoms such as those of gastroenteritis may appear. In susceptible individuals, these symptoms may progress to a more severe form.

Moreover, a scandal took place a few months ago, due to consumption of frozen pizzas by Buitoni. Two young children died while others ended up in hospital.
