This ranking does not come out of nowhere, since it is the result of a study spotted by our colleagues from Flair, commissioned by the personalized brand for babies My 1st Years, in collaboration with Dr Bodo Winter, associate professor of cognitive linguistics at Birmingham University. The latter used the principles of linguistics to classify the most popular first names according to their level of consonance, that is to say the way in which they “sound” to the human ear.

We thus discover that the male name with the most beautiful sounding would be Zayn. This first name originating from Arabia means “beauty and “grace”, so it is not surprising that it is considered to have the most beautiful sound. In the United Kingdom, Zayn has become a very popular first name due to the success that singer Zayn Malik, former member of the band One Direction, has had. Among the girls, Sophia wins the prize. Originally from Greece, the first name means “wisdom”.

In the rest of the classification, we then find Jesse, Charlie, Matthew and Louie among the boys. Zoe, Everly, Rosie and Sophie come to close the top five of the most beautiful female names. Note that first names beginning with the letter E seem to enjoy a particular sound since we find in the top 20 Ellie, Emily, Evelyn, Eva and Elena.
