ofin a few days, in the northern hemisphere, summer will end to make way for autumn: Friday, September 23, 2022 at 3 hours, 3 minutes and 40 seconds (Paris time). A very precise moment dictated by the schedule of the astronomical phenomenon which marks this change of season and which is called the autumnal equinox. Everyone has heard of it, but what is it exactly?
As its name suggests, it is a date on which the duration of the day is equal to that of the night. Which happens twice a year: at the beginning of autumn and at the beginning of spring. It is a phenomenon linked to the Sun, the Earth and its axis of rotation on itself. Which happens to be inclined about 23.5 degrees relative to the orbital plane on which our planet revolves around its star.
