Today Apple released two iOS updates; iOS 16 and iOS 15.7. iOS 16 is a major iOS upgrade available for eligible iPhones along with several new features. While iOS 15.7 is a minor upgrade from the previous iOS 15.6.1 update and contains only minor changes. Let’s find out more about the new iOS 15.7 update.
Last week, iOS 15.7 release candidate was released alongside iOS 16 RC. This was surprising as Apple had not released any beta version for iOS 15.7 before RC. Along with the iOS 15.7 update, Apple also released iPadOS 15.7, iOS 16, watchOS 9, tvOS 16, macOS Big Sur 11.7, and macOS Monterey 12.6.
iOS 15.7 comes with a build number 7:12 p.m.. This build number is also the same for iPadOS 15.7. The size of the update varies depending on the version you are coming from. In any case, it is recommended to use WiFi to update iPhone.
This is a minor update and the update page only states that it includes important security updates and is recommended for all users. Apple’s update page doesn’t cover much, but it still contains updates, including small tweaks. So you can expect some changes in iOS 15.7 update.
Now, as you know, iOS 16 and iOS 15.7 released at the same time, most iPhone users will choose iOS 16. iPhone SE, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s are not eligible for iOS 16, so if you own one out of those five iPhones, you only have one update, which is iOS 15.7.
Users of new iPhones also have the option to choose between iOS 15.7 and iOS 16. If you have eligible iPhones, you can update to the new iOS version from Settings > General > Software Update. Once you see the update, you can tap the Download and Install button to get the iOS 15.7 update.
Before updating your iPhone or iPad, be sure to charge it to 50% and make a backup.
