Italian cuisine is one of the most popular cuisines in the world to this day, known in particular for its essential pasta dishes, homemade lasagna and pizza. Generous and easy-to-make recipes, offering endless filling possibilities. Depending on the time of year, Italian chefs give pride of place to seasonal products which have given rise to legendary recipes such as pizza quattro stagioni (four seasons), penne pomodoro, or ricotta spinach ravioli.
If these recipes have indeed crossed the borders of the country thanks to their undeniable popularity, there are actually an infinity of equally iconic dishes. In terms of ingredients, Italian gastronomy is based on the use of fresh products, but also in particular olive oil, of which Italy is the world’s second largest producer, after Spain. There is also a rich variety of cheeses such as parmesan, mozzarella, or gorgonzola. Without forgetting the Italian charcuterie, like mortadella, or coppa, which can both be eaten, cut into thin slices. Many recipes also contain basil or oregano, but also capers, very popular in the country, anchovies or dried tomatoes. Regional specialties are influenced by the local products available, such as seafood in Sardinia.
A green white red menu worthy of the name
For a successful Italian aperitif, we bet on crostini and bruschetta, as easy to make as they are to taste. You can also let yourself be tempted by a plate of antipasti, which is generously garnished with charcuterie and cheeses from the country. As a starter, nothing beats a nice caprese salad, or a tasty beef carpaccio, both drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. For the main course, why not opt for a seasonal risotto, or a beautiful Milanese escalope accompanied by aubergines alla parmigiana? Finally, for dessert, one thing is certain, our neighbors have everything to seduce sweet tooths: tiramisu, semifreddo, cannoli, or even ice cream, the choice may be complicated!
